Confessions first ~ I’m a veggie grower who doesn’t eat her veggies. Shameful I know, but my true joy is playing in the dirt, not the kitchen.
Last winter, after years of cereal and wine for dinner, my body went on strike. Muscle aches, joint pain, back and headaches, exhaustion. Each morning I was certain a truck ran me over during the night.
By Christmas something had to be done so I emailed Kim Diaz, a health coach whose seasonal cleanse a year before left me feeling like a rock star. Her ‘clean eating’ lifestyle seemed like the last hope between me and a slew of doctors and medications. My goal was to completely change my eating habits over two years (yep, I’m a slow learner!) so I signed up for six months of health coaching.
It is indescribable all that I’ve learned about food, my body, my addictions and frankly a lifetime of misconceptions. But here are a few things I figured out along the way.
Yes, you can feel like a rock star every day, simply by eating ‘real’ food. Healthy has nothing to do with size or image, you can see it in someone’s skin, how they move through life, how they glow. There’s a world of clean eaters out there ~ not people who are perfect but who care about what they put in their body. Oh, and you can find a bunch of those folks at the Dug In farm stand! Bonus!
Not to be too glowy about things, this hasn’t been the easiest of journeys. A nasty addiction to sugar still taunts me regularly. And after 12 hours working outside, whipping up a healthy meal can be a challenge but Kim has me armed with easy recipes and simple go to items. This week I’ve included two of those in the recipe section of the website.
If you’re curious about what Kim offers or just want to explore more ways to eat healthy, check out her upcoming class on Smoothies and Juicing. You’ll get a few Dug In Dollars just for attending and you might meet a few fellow travelers in the world of good-for-you food!
